How the CPL points table works

The Caribbean Premier League is the West Indies’ franchise Twenty20 competition, with teams representing territories across the region and matches spread around the islands. Seasons run through the second half of the year, usually starting in August and finishing with the final in September.

The competition expanded to seven teams in 2026, having been a six-team league for most of its life. Each side plays 10 matches in the group stage, and the top four go through to the playoffs. Travel shapes the season as much as form does, because the tournament moves between islands rather than settling in one country.

Points are awarded on the standard T20 scale: two for a win, nothing for a defeat, and one apiece where a match ends without a result. Rain is a genuine factor in the Caribbean at that time of year, so no-result points tend to matter more here than in a dry-season league.

Teams finishing level on points are separated by net run rate, which sets the rate a side has scored at against the rate it has conceded at across the season.

The playoff route gives the top two an advantage. First and second meet in Qualifier 1, and the winner goes straight to the final. Third and fourth play the Eliminator, where defeat ends the season.
